Alice Backer

Alice Backer
Alice Backer was classically trained in violin but, once she was exposed to Scottish and Bluegrass music, her violin suddenly turned into a fiddle and has remained that way since.
She is currently a member of the Mary Morrisson Scottish Trio, The Cameron Scottish Musicians, The CrossStitch Folk Ensemble and so many other bands that I can't keep track of them all. She was an active member of the Risky Business Bluegrass Band for well over ten years and recorded a number of CDs with them. She plays an amazing, foot-stomping Scottish Bluegrass medley of Scotland plus Fairy Dance, her Orange Blossom Special is the best anywhere, and her sensitive, emotional airs are truly beautiful and wonderful to listen to.
Alice has performed Scottish music and has also taught her popular Scottish/Bluegrass Fiddle Connection workshop in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and throughout Scotland.
She is in high demand as a dance musician, music teacher, and workshop leader in a variety of musical styles. Alice is also a versatile lead and harmony singer who enriches any group she sings with. Alice will be leading a Scottish music (fiddle and other instruments) workshop for the Cameron Music Ensemble in early 2009 (date not set yet), in Queens, NY. Rumor has it that she will be teaching how to hula hoop while playing driving Scottish reels.
