Salute to McNab (The McNab Sword Dance)

This modification is to make the McNabb work with the ghillie calum music, so that both dances can be danced simultaneously. This modification, of the Salue to McNabb Sword is not be done as a fugue. All dance same steps at same time.
Introduction
Piper leads. March out with swords, and do Sword salute.
Bow with other sword dancers
Step 1 - Addressing the swords
   Same as first step, except all start together, with Scottish Sword dancers also.
Step 2 - Padebasque over the Swords
   Same as second step, except all start together, and end facing the right, ready to begin the third step immediately.
Step 3 - Toe Heel
   Same as third step, except all start together, and you don't dance the eight padebasques.
Step 4 - Traveling around the swords (dancer #1)
   Everyone dances the first dancer's track, twice. Also, this step will go much faster, as it matches the fast part of the ghillie calum sword.
Bow with everyone else.
pick up swords, honor piper, and march off. Piper follows.

Cape Breton Steps from Pinewoods 2003

Notes
   Hard shoe dancing came to Canada and US from the Heberdies of Scotland, and is now returning back to Scotland. Steps generally start with a step onto the left foot. There is a gentle up and down movement throughout the step showing the beat/pulse of the music. All steps are on the ball of the foot; unless a "heel" movement is specified, the heel does not touch the floor. Generally Cape Breton is done in shoes with leather soles with no taps. Additional details on the steps are found in the Cape Breton section that follows this one.

Good warmup
   Walk around the room on the balls of your feet, with a gentle bounce on every step. This gentle bounce continues throughout every step. Don't let heels touch the floor.

Good music
   Most CD's are too fast to practice to. Maggie recommends 'Dance on the Fiddle' by Karen Steven. Available at Fiddler's Crossing and maybe at Ed Perlmans site - www.portlandamerical.com

Basic reel step
   Step L; Shuffle R; Hop Left; Bang R. Bang R. Each movement is an eighth note, except bang bang, which are each quarter notes. (shuffle is two movements - therefore 2 eighth notes)

Reel steps
   0. Step shuffle hop bang bang. This is the basic step.
   1. Step shuffle hop bang stamp.
   2. Step shuffle hop bang shuffle (second shuffle is 2x as fast).
   3. Step shuffle hop side back (similar to bang bang).
   4. Step shuffle hop bang twist (carefully hit outside of foot to floor).

Dorothy Step
   Step shuffle hop step (slighly to side, pigeon-toed), click (heels together)
   repeat other side
   Step shuffle hop step (slighly to side, pigeon-toed), click (heels together), twist (both feet pigeon-toed), click, twist, click.

Double Shuffle
   Essentially dance two reel steps (with bang shuffle ending) on the right, with a slight lift between the two steps. Then repeat two on the left.

Sideways - three steps
   Step L. Heel R (twisting on heel to face right). Step L (beside the R), stamp R.
   Still facing R, dance a basic step ending with step, shuffle
   While turning to face front, dance two more basic steps ending with step, shuffle
   repeat other side.

Basic Strathspey step: Two foot, one foot
   Step L. Hop L. Step R. Hop R. Tip - keep both feet on the floor after stepping, until you actually hop. Don't pull up the foot too fast after the step. Keep weight on both feet longer.

Triplets
   Step L, step R (to front), step L. Repeat contra. Also described as step ball change.

Triplets with heel
   Step L, heel R (to front), step L. Repeat contra.

Treble
   Step L. Hop L, Shuffle R. Step R. Hop R, Shuffle L.

Sevens traveling Left
   Step L (to the side). step R (to the front of the L foot). Repeat L, R, L, R, L, R, L, R, L, R, L (pause), hop (L), shuffle (R). Repeat contra.

Small Triangle

   On inward brush, brush the R to the left of the L.

Toe-Taps with Wooden Leg
   Two Toe-Taps. One Wooden Leg (no crossover). Repeat contra. This step is a good traveling step.
